Zen Chic Wallets by pink chalk studio
Zen Chic Wallets, a photo by pink chalk studio on Flickr.
Pink Chalk Studio comes always up with some great ideas of how to use their fabrics. So I'm really happy they carry my line Juggling Summer and look what they have made from the Interwining Circles Print! Aren't these purses just lovely? They used a recipe from www.modabakeshop.com and the little wallets make a wonderful, easy and quick Christmas gift. Best make a dozen of those, because everyone can need them for some pocket money, tissues, lipstick, coupons - you name it. Thank you Katie, for the idea!

Ok, I’m a little bit delayed to tell you about…

how Quilt Market was in Houston. It was fantastic, it was busy, it was inspiring and it was for sure really successful for us.

Just some pictures to let you walk the floors with me…

Martin looks like he is tempted to set up another booth right away, but I can’t hide how much the jet lag exhausted me.

Now open the doors and let’s have a fun show!

You will learn about my newest patters and fabric line in a later post, for today I’ll walk with you the floors.

First of all: the famous Amy Butler, as always with a spectacular booth, which got a well deserved award.

Then  of course to another celebrity of the quilting world : Denyse Schmidt. Very simple, modern, stylish

How wonderful every person made her/his personal booth! I’m always astonished how much organization, planning and effort the designers have accomplished, to get their items shipped to the booth by plane or trucks and manage the miracle to make the ugly Wednesday to a dream at Thursday!

Tada!!!! Today is giveaway day.

Thank you for all your comments to my blog post. I’m happy about so many people liking Germany or having good memories about. Seems I could have lots of nice guests here :-)

Thank you for all your compliments about my patterns and my fabrics. It means the world to me that what I have to give finds a warm welcome among my quilting friends. And it fuels my flame of creativity.

Many of you commented that they like the OHO pattern so much. At this point I want also to give credit to my source of inspiration, who was Jenny Pedrigo. Jenny developed a curved ruler and makes wonderful contemporary quilts with it. They were so inspiring that I created also a curved one, OHO.
BTW you can also use
Jenny’s Ruler for the pattern, although it has a slightly different angle.

And I was surprised to learn that many of you love fat quarter bundles as their favorite pre-cuts. I was surprised since in Germany the fabric prices are much higher than in US. I sell mostly charm packs here. A Fat-Quarter bundle is nearly unaffordable for us and remains a dream.

So, good news – one fat quarter bundle is coming to you:
It goes to No. 27, who is Lia

Random Lia, please mail me your address, the fabrics will be shipped out to you.

It was wonderful to have so many new visitors on my blog, people who stopped by for the first time, people who said: “was I living under a rock not having heard about you so far?” ;-)
I appreciate all your nice, friendly and encouraging comments and for all of you I want to give back a big, fat

Thank you!!!

Also jetzt zu den guten Neuigkeiten: Das Fatquarterbundle geht an No. 27, an LIA!!!

Moda Designer’s blog hop … oh sew sweet!!!

Maybe you’ve already heard about …
Moda celebrates National Sewing Month and gives you a look behind the scenes of every Moda designer. They all will tell you a bit about where they’re living and what is going on in their lives currently. Perhaps they’ll reveal a bit about their new lines too…
Here is all the info about the blog tour, the free patterns and the giveaways. You have a chance to win something every day, also from the previous blog stops, until 15th of October. Don’t miss your chance and check out everything!
We all tell a bit about our hometown, and here is mine (not the one where I was born, but where I am living now).
It’s called WERTHER and it’s pretty small, we have about 12.000 pop. It’s quiet, nearly as you stay in a dreamy village for a few days on holiday: fields, forests, vast landscapes, tranquility

It’s beautiful for hiking or just a walk (only a busy Moda designer doesn’t find the time to do so…)

And if you are in a mood for a shopping day in a bigger town – no problem: Bielefeld with its 200.000 pop is just twenty driving minutes away.

Like me he was a passionate lover of the use of colors.

Perhaps I would urge you to try one these tasty Werther candies which are known all over the world…

Speaking from candies – did you know that Moda has a new fabric pre-cut size called “Candy”? It’s 2 1/2” by 2 1/2” and perfect for little gifts and projects. Each of us designers made a little project for the last Quilt Market out of a candy of our line. And this blog hop offers a lot of free patterns for the candy size.
Although for some reasons I don’t have a free pattern for my line available, I nevertheless have something to show:
A bed quilt made only from one candy and some background fabric! The ones who know me know also that it HAD to be minimalist ,-)
Zen Grey

Don’t worry about no free candy pattern from Zen Chic, I’m sure the Juggling Summer fabrics go well with most of the free patterns of the other designers too.
Zen Silver CoverOr get the Zen Silver pattern, which will give you a very similar look.
The pre-cut fabrics of Juggling Summer are already available in many stores and we eagerly wait for the bolts to arrive in October!!

 juggling Summer fabrics
There is a certain chance for a short-cut ;-) I have a big, fat bundle of Fat Quarters for you to win!

Juggling Summer Fabrics
What do you have to do to win that price? Please leave a comment and tell me which is your favorite Zen Chic pattern or which kind of pre-cut you like best to work with. And take care to leave your email address so I can contact you in case you’re the lucky winner!
Also schau einfach überall mal vorbei!

This will be a fun for all fabric lovers!

So many things to tell…

…and where should I begin?

The summertime brought some exciting news and nice times to relax.
The one exciting thing I have to tell about – a new modern quilt guild here in Bielefeld. It all started about a year ago when Christine and me by chance met at flicker and get befriended. After posting here and there we found out that we live only a couple of driving minutes apart. When I asked for some help for my Market tasks, Christine offered her sewing skills and so we got to know each other in person. We felt at once that we are two kindred souls and it took not long we got the idea to sew together. We would like to have an own quilting group, a modern group, and so we started with a new branch of the modern quilt guild here in Germany, in Bielefeld.

Banner modern Quilt guild_k

Now we enthusiastically made plans, set up a website, and gave our two person group a first “test drive” by sewing together in my garden. That afternoon was such a nice time and went by much to fast, we enjoyed the evening until 10PM. Christine tells about our fun on her blog.

modern quilt guild Bielefeld

Of course this has to be repeated as often as we can make it possible!

But first I left for some days off at the sea, with my little son Ben   and my partner Martin we drove to Sütel near Heiligeostsee_04anhafen. Sometimes we had bad rain showers but they go away usually quickly at the coast and sun was shining again. We were basking at the beach or strolling through little towns, visited Lübeck and enjoyed a relaxing time.

ostsee collage

Just when I came back our recruiting for some quilters living nearby and being interested in our new group leaded to our first meeting, an evening in a restaurant, where we enjoyed to talk all hours long about our passion. Christine reports on our Guild Blog, how much fun we had. Find more pictures there.

Simultaneously I was preparing a seminar about precuts for Rhinetex, the European quilt distributor for quilting supplies located in Netherlands. I was invited to speak there the last weekend and my partner Martin came with me.
A lot of shop owners were there at these open-house-days and the seminar got a good response. We stayed in a hotel in Arnhem and I felt instantly in love with this city. There is so much flair in this town, one can’t tell by words, one has to see it personally. Just some pictures

The Korenmarkt has so much nice restaurants to sit for a while

Arnhem Korenmarkt

We ended up in a nice Tapas restaurant

and enjoyed the lovely little “happjes”

The other evening we were invited for a business dinner in a “wow”-restaurant, Tante Loes,  at the Rhine-Terraces, where I felt incredibly spoiled.

Besides we saw a lot of interesting places to be, if you are hungry for some cultural inspiration. For example Dudok, a café with an artistic flair

Dudok arnhem

We also didn’t miss to stroll around for a little bit of (window) shopping

Moetkunsten

Mejer en Floor, where you’ll find interiors only in shades of black and white

the art of camouflage, a shop for business men where shirts are sorted in straight shelves by colors

By Maeve, where you find upper class haute couture

(Not does that meet my budget, but I had nevertheless fun exploring those shops)

and than I spent my money at this irresistible “Dille&Kamille”, with all sorts of nice dishes and garden accessories.

We also spent an afternoon at Nijmegen

You see – there were a lot of things keeping me in action and now – back to my desktop again and getting some work finished!
